Advance Commercial Information (ACI)

Hapag-Lloyd informs about cargo in-transit through Canada to the USA or Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

We would like to inform you about a Canadian Customs requirement with regard to cargo moving in-transit to a country other than Canada.

Recently we have received several “Do Not Loads” due to in-transit information missing in the advanced customs manifest. For these particular shipments our contract of carriage ended in Canada, the on-carriage was organized in merchant’s haulage.

In order to avoid any further issues we kindly ask all non-self filers to confirm in their shipping instructions if cargo is indeed in-transit cargo to the USA or Saint Pierre and Miquelon. The in-transit remark will not be displayed in the Bill of Lading but the appropriate in-transit movement type code will be transmitted to customs.

In case of self-filer business it is the responsibility of the ACI self-filer to submit the  supplementary cargo report coded as in-transit to Canadian Customs.

Please also refer to the following Customs Notice published by Canada Border Services Agency: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/cn-ad/cn11-017-eng.html
